The pensions agency is temporarily ceasing the abatement during the COVID 19 pandemic meaning those that retired between 55 – 60 will not have their pension abated. The 16 hour rule and the abatement rule has been suspended to allow people to come back to work if they can.

These measures will allow skilled and experienced members, who have recently retired from the NHS, to return to work. It will also allow retired members who have already returned to work to increase their commitments if needed, without affecting their pension benefits.
